Since 1993, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia's Youth Sailing Academy has excelled in developing youth sailors into world class athletes. Graduates have gone on to represent Australia in the America's Cup, Olympic Games, Rolex SailGP, The Ocean Race and Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

In 2024, the CYCA Youth Sailing Academy had one of its most successful seasons on the water, continuing one of the longest club winning streaks in the sport by taking out the Club Marine NSW Youth Match Racing Championship for the 23rd year. The YSA also secured the Australian National Championship, the Governor's Cup and reclaimed the World Sailing Youth Match Racing World Championship.

Now, in its 32nd season, the CYCA Youth Sailing Academy is the world's leading youth keelboat program.

The focus for the CYCA Youth Sailing Academy now shifts back to winter training for 2025 with applications open for the three winter training squads.

This year's Talented Sailor Squad (TSS) will run over seven weeks throughout May and July, allowing sailors to develop their keelboat and fleet racing skills over each session.

The Development Match Racing (DMR) Squad will allow sailors to set new goals and shape better understanding across both match racing and fleet racing disciplines. The program incorporates both fleet and match racing components. Running from May through to the end of July, sailors will represent the CYCA at local, state and national fleet racing and match racing events.

Finally, the Advanced Squad (AS) targets sailors looking to represent the Club, and Australia at national and international events. This squad puts more emphasis on athletes' commitment to reaching higher levels of performance and competition in fleet and match racing. From May to August, the program provides greater racing opportunities for athletes by supporting specific events related to the Youth Sailing Academy.

More information and applications for each squad can be found on the CYCA website. The application period closes on Thursday 17 April 2025.
